Welcome to Great View Guesthouse

Great View Guesthouse is a home-stay guesthouse near Akureyri in North Iceland. It is surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

It is conveniently located for travellers who wish to explore North Iceland. There is an abundance of activities available in the area and Akureyri, the largest town in North Iceland, is located only 9 km away.

The guesthouse can accommodate 9 persons and has three double rooms and one triple room. All guests have access to a kitchen and two shared bathrooms.

The house has a hot tub on one of the terraces that all guests have access to. We highly recommend relaxing in the hot tub while enjoying the midnight sun during summer and go star-gazing during winter. You might even catch the northern lights.

Your welcoming hosts at Great View Guesthouse are Þóra Hjörleifsdóttir on Ívar Ragnarsson. They built and designed the house themselves and have been living in Jódísarstaðir since December 2006. They have been renting out their spare rooms since May 2016, when their children moved out. They have no farming but Ívar has six horses that he has great pleasure from.

Best place we stayed in Iceland

We had a small twin room and it was cosy and comfortable. The whole house is gorgeous and the breakfast is the best with a waffle station (yummy). The view from the living room is outstanding. Incredible value for money in such an expensive country. Highly recommended!!

Outstanding - We extended our stay

Location is perfect for touring the area (5 min from city center), yet it is countryside with a beautiful view; the BEST breakfast (homemade bread, cakes, meat/cheese, waffles, cereal etc); friendly & relaxed hosts that made us feel very welcome; stunning view; super clean; gorgeous house. Staying here was a highlight of the trip. It was the best Guesthouse of our 10-day trip.

Wonderful stay

Staying here was an absolute treat. The room was nice and clean, and the house itself is beautiful. The view truly is great surrounded by mountains. There is a hot tub and multiple seating areas inside to enjoy the view. The hostess allowed us to do laundry and use her kitchen to cook our dinner which was very kind of her. We would definitely stay here again, breakfast was delicious and we could make our own waffles!

Beautiful surroundings

Eyjafjörður is beautiful. It’s tranquil and surrounded by mountains and the river Eyjafjarðará runs short by the guesthouse.

Great View Guesthouse is located on road 821, around 9 km from Akureyri. The address is Jódísarstaðir 4, Eyjafjarðarsveit. Leirunesti is a gas station you pass when you drive south and east of Akureyri, towards Husavik and Myvatn. Once you have crossed the bridge called Leirubrú to the east, you take the first turn to the right and drive road 829. When you have driven approximately 8 km you arrive at a sign with the name: Jódísarstaðir 1-10 on your right when you come from Akureyri. You drive down the driveway and Great View Guesthouse is the first house you come to, on your right.
